Why go for Carboxy therapy?
Carboxy therapy is a gentle treatment that uses CO2 (carbon dioxide) as a therapeutic gas to improve circulation and boost skin health. It’s a versatile option used for various aesthetic and wellness needs.
Carboxy therapy is used for the treatment of scarring, skin tightening, cellulite, fat pocket reduction and stretch marks.
It is also a popular treatment for hair loss and treating dark circles under the eyes.
What is Carboxy therapy?
Oxygenated blood flow in the targeted area is increased while the formation of collagen is stimulated at the same time. This non-surgical procedure can have a significant effect on the appearance of skin.
This treatment is best suited for:
- Cellulite
- Acne and scar tissue
- Wounds
- Wrinkles
- Hair loss
- Skin tightening
- Stretch marks
- Dark under-eye circles
Our expert somatologists are here to offer personalised advice to help you address your specific needs.
How does it work to refresh and rejuvenate?
Dark under-eye circles, scars, and cellulite are often linked to poor circulation, which limits the flow of oxygen to those areas. Carboxy therapy helps boost this circulation by using a clever trick: a tiny injection of carbon dioxide (CO2) gas signals the body to send more oxygen-rich red blood cells to the area. These blood cells pick up the CO2 as “waste”, which your body naturally removes through your lungs.
As more oxygen flows in, the cells in that area become more active, speeding up healing and stimulating fresh cell production to renew and revitalise your skin. It’s a simple, natural boost to help your skin look and feel its best!
The procedure takes between 15-30 minutes and the effect is usually visible for up to six months. For longterm results it is best to maintain the treated area every six months or as discussed with somatologist.
What other benefits occur from this therapy?
Beyond boosting oxygen-rich blood flow to the treated area, carboxy therapy also stimulates collagen production in the skin. This added collagen helps smooth and firm the skin, giving it a fresher, more youthful appearance.
How many follow-up treatments do we recommend?
We generally recommend starting with 6-10 treatments spaced one week apart will achieve the best results, depending on the area and your specific needs. Our experienced somatologists will go over your treatment plan, including the recommended number of sessions and ideal timing, to help you achieve the best results.
How it help with dark under-eye circles?
Dark under-eye circles are often caused by poor blood flow, especially if the capillaries around the eyes become congested due to issues like allergies, nasal congestion, or even a deviated septum. This can create a bluish tint under the eyes, sometimes called “allergic shiners.”
Carboxy therapy targets this by gently injecting a small amount of CO2 into the area. This boosts blood flow, strengthens the capillary network, and stimulates collagen production, which thickens the skin. Over a series of treatments, the bluish tint fades to a healthy pink, leaving the area brighter and more refreshed for around six months.
If carboxy therapy is used to melt fat, won’t it make my eyelids hollow?
No, carboxy therapy won’t make your eyelids look hollow. The method used to treat dark circles is different from the one used for fat reduction.
What Does Carboxy Therapy Feel Like?
Carboxy therapy isn’t painful, but it can feel a bit unusual depending on the area being treated. Here’s what to expect:
- For Under-Eye Circles: You might feel a slight puffiness in the lower eyelids, similar to the feeling after a night of crying. This settles within 5-10 minutes as the CO2 is absorbed.
- For Stretch Marks and Scars: Treatment here is generally painless since the skin in these areas has fewer pain receptors. You may feel slight pressure or itchiness, which quickly fades as the gas absorbs.
- For Cellulite and Fat Deposits: This has a distinct sensation, like the pressure of a blood pressure cuff, as more CO2 is injected to expand the area. You may feel warmth and tingling for up to 24 hours as circulation improves.
To keep things comfortable, a numbing cream is applied to minimise any prickling from the injection itself.
Are there any side-effects or risks associated with this treatment?
The main potential side effect of carboxy therapy is a bruise at the injection site. However, treatments for the eyelids typically don’t leave any marks, making it a true “no-downtime” option. If you’re treating areas like the arms or legs, bruising is more common, so you might want to avoid scheduling treatments right before wearing a bikini on vacation.
As for risks, there are no known risks associated with carboxy therapy. Carbon dioxide injections have been safely used for years in endoscopic surgeries and by cardiologists for certain diagnostic procedures.
